Do's & Don'ts

Pyrotechnics can be dangerous in inexperienced hands.
Therefore it is critical that attention is paid to the following safety advice:

  * Pyrotechnics ARE explosives
  * DO follow ignition instructions
  * DO wear protective gloves
  * DO wear eye protection
  * DO ignite only one grenade at a time
  * DO throw or roll in a safe direction
  * DO retreat at least 5 metres

  * Pyrotechnics ARE NOT toys
  * CAN NOT be purchased by under 16 years (18 in Great Britain)
  * DO NOT store pyrotechnics in pockets
  * DO NOT carry grenades by the ring pull
  * DO NOT cover gas vent with bare skin
  * DO NOT throw into confined space
  * DO NOT reuse unexploded grenades
  * DO NOT smoke while near or using pyrotechnics

There are also some other factors you may wish to consider:

  * Will my smoke obstruct the vision of vehicles or traffic?
  * Is the space too enclosed or will my smoke cause irritation to peoples breathing?
  * Is the grenade too loud for the environment I am planning to use it in?
  * Will my pyrotechnic cause injury to other people?
  * Will my pyrotechnic disturb or cause damage to animals?
  * Will my pyrotechnic cause the accidental ignition of any other objects?
